After decades of researching music and frequencies to find out how they affect people, Michael Tyrrell came to a surprising conclusion - music has a big impact on pets too...
Music can ease anxiety, moderate nervous behavior, and reduce barking and growling. But there is a winning formula for music to really affect us and our pets, and the secret lies in frequency.
While researching music, Tyrrell knew that classical music, such as Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and others had a certain good effect for pets. But, in creating music that has different frequencies, he found a whole new concept of music that is on a whole new level. It's like elevator music - it doesn't bore you, it actually relaxes you. Michael is the founder of "Wholetones" music and the YouTube channel of the same name where he puts examples of his work. His collections consist of different frequencies that awaken positive energy and reduce any negativity.
But what exactly is frequency? All music is created with the help of frequency - and 1 hertz means that there is one sound wave per second. Tyrrell's perfect music for calming dogs is composed at a frequency of 396 hertz, i.e. 396 sound waves per second. These things will mean nothing to the average person, because you know what kind of music you like and if it's good. But what you don't know is that you are feeling the frequency whether you are aware of it or not. That's why his music can be good for dogs, because they sense the frequency a little differently than we do. Compare that to a dog whistle - we can't hear it, they can, all because of the frequency.
"Animals are sensitive to those frequencies and can hear them even when the sound is turned down a lot," Michael said. So, if you have a dog that cannot hear well (due to old age or some health problem), try playing music at a frequency of 396 hertz. Changes will certainly occur in his behavior, especially if he barks and growls from time to time.
The next time your pet is in a stressful situation, play meditation sounds (or Wholetones, Miles' music) at a certain frequency and notice if their behavior changes or if they calm down.
